Some Progress on Tuesday

Well my mommeh was outside all evening after she gotted home from the work place last night. I was not happeh about that, and I yelled for her to come in the entire time she was out there, but I know she had to get it done. She forgotted her camera at the work place so she snapped a quick cell phone picture of the progress on the garden:
As you can see, it is not verreh large at all, only about 6' by 2.5'. I am still not impressed - but she says she would rather fail on a small scale than fail on a grand scale. This is our first garden with any vegetables in it, so if it goes well she says we will expand the garden next season. Besides, the soil was so bad that she had to buy all kinds of potting stuff and fertilizey stuff to add to it, and she says we are not millionaires. (Grumble, grumble, WHY are we not millionaires?) So last night she decided we could not afford a tiller thinger, and went at the ground with our landlord's pick-axe - and discovered another reason why it was so hard to get through the dirt in that area... cement! Yes, there had apparently been a walkway there at some point that had gotted all covered up, and was just lurking under there. So my mommeh worked her verreh hardest, and when she finally came in I almost did not recognize her! Covered in cement dust and dirts and fertilizey from feet to face!!! I made her get in the shower right away and I gotted her a glass of wine. But she says it is all put together now, bulbs and seeds are down, so hopefully this summer we will have some cool stuff coming up! It is my job to remind her to go out with the watering can every day. Maybe if I do a good job reminding her, I can persuade her to plant a little catnip in one of those corners...

  1. Wow, Attie, your mom has done amazing work. A pick axe? That's HARD! Kudos to her for getting it all done without a tiller. We hope the garden yields an abundance of veggies!

  7. Wow your mom is very impressive! We don't have a garden because our mom is not good at growing stuff - she used to be ok but the big trees block the sun now. We hope that your mom's garden grows up big and strong after all the effort she put in to get it started!!

That ship,as far as we know, is a destroyer ship. It was moving around in the harbor cause there were two aircraft carriers docked at the time.

  10. Wonderful job! Just think, every season now you can swap out what you plant. Amend the soil a little every year to replace what the plants used up and you're good to go again with new crops. Awesome...catnip doesn't take up too much room either...
